THE CHALLENGE

UK food businesses are increasingly looking to innovate, differentiate and meet growing consumer demand for healthier, more sustainable products while building more diversified and resilient supply chains.

Yet many remain unaware that Africa is home to some of the world's most nutritious and climate-resilient ingredients, or lack a trusted route to explore them.

Meanwhile, many African producers face barriers to international markets, limiting their commercial growth.

Based in the UK, Future Foods Africa exists to bridge this gap, connecting UK food businesses with Africa's ancient grains,

starting with fonio.

WHAT DO WE DO?

We help UK food manufacturers, brands, bakeries, breweries, mills, and foodservice businesses innovate, differentiate and meet growing consumer demand by discovering, sourcing and trialling Africa's ancient grains, starting with fonio.

OUR SOURCING APPROACH

Beyond a great story, high-potential ingredients need reliable, ethical, sustainable and traceable supply chains that deliver consistent quality.

That's why we work with trusted producers meeting international standards, while supporting others in becoming export-ready, helping them access international markets and build healthier, more resilient food systems.

MEET FONIO

Naturally grown in West Africa for over 5000 years, fonio is one of the oldest, nutrient-rich, and most sustainable grains in the world.

Naturally gluten-free with a low glycaemic index and mild in flavour,
fonio integrates easily into modern food formulations while offering
strong sustainability credentials and a compelling origin story.
Its light and fine texture makes it particularly suitable for gluten-free
bakery blends, cereals, ready meals, and plant-based product
development.

Fonio is increasingly recognised across Europe as a next-generation
climate-resilient grain with strong commercial potential in health focused and sustainability-led product ranges.
